Performed in Atlanta, GA by Dr. John L. LeRoy.
Overly large breasts, or breasts that are too large and disproportionate to the size and shape of your body, can have an impact on one’s daily life and make them uncomfortable – and even embarrassed. Breast reduction surgery, for both women and men, from Dr. John L. LeRoy can eliminate excess skin and fat in the breasts for smaller breasts that provide a better balance with your body features.
Breast reduction surgery can be very beneficial for women whose breasts are too large for their body frame. Overly large breasts can cause a variety of problems, both physical and psychological. Women who often consider breast reduction surgery are often those who suffer from:
- Excessive drooping of the breasts
- Neck, back, and shoulder pain
- Skin indentations from bra-straps
- Asymmetry of the breasts
- Inability to wear desired clothing
With breast reduction surgery, Dr. John LeRoy can address these issues and create breasts that are more proportional to your body.
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammaplasty, typically begins with an incision made around the areola (the dark-pigmented area surrounding the nipple), down to the crease of the breast, and then horizontally to form an anchor shape. Excess fat and tissue is removed, and the nipples repositioned to a higher location. The size of the breasts should then be decreased to create an appearance in better proportion to your body frame.
The breast reduction procedure can be performed on an out-patient basis under general anesthesia. Surgery typically takes about three to four hours to complete.
Patients can expect some degree of swelling and discomfort during recovery; however, this can be alleviated with medication. Dr. LeRoy will work diligently to minimize the appearance of scarring from the procedure. If you are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. LeRoy during your initial consultation.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Treatment)
Gynecomastia is a condition that often begins in adolescence and causes men to develop excess fat and/or glandular tissue in the breasts. It can cause severe self-consciousness and even depression. Male breast reduction surgery from Dr. John L. LeRoy can reduce the excess fat and tissue in the breasts and give the chest a more contoured appearance. During the procedure, excess skin and fat is removed and the remaining skin tightened. Liposuction may also be used to sculpt the remaining skin for the best aesthetic result.
Cases of gynecomastia are unique in each patient, so you should talk about treatment options with your doctor and schedule a consultation with Dr. LeRoy to determine the best option for your needs.
