As one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the country, liposuction is quite well-known. Many people already know that the procedure removes excess fat from the treatment area by suctioning the fat through a narrow tube. However, fewer people realize that there is a way to make the procedure minimally invasive—a unique surgery which I developed and called Band Aid Liposuction.
Band Aid Liposuction is performed in-office with gentle numbing, and is designed for patients who have particularly small areas of unwanted fat. As a result, the treatment can be an ideal option not only for patients who have tiny pockets of fat in the typical areas (like the abdomen), but also for patients who have excess fat in smaller areas that few people think of in connection with liposuction. Check out some of the areas where Band Aid Liposuction can be highly effective in creating slimmer body contours with minimal downtime:
Every patient has their own unique goals, needs, and priorities, and choosing the correct procedure is an important step toward getting the best possible results. For example, patients who have not only unwanted fat but also excess, sagging skin on their midsection are better suited for a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Summer is beginning to draw to a close, as are the fun days spent lounging on the beach, hiking through the mountains, or enjoying another summer excursion. But as much as we all love spending time outdoors, most people are not as vigilant about sun protection as they should be. Besides the risks sun exposure can pose to our health, it can also significantly accelerate the aging process. While skin damage can’t be undone, there are several ways to address the signs of premature aging and to get you back to looking like a younger you, and our August specials can help.
Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing
During this non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedure, tiny columns of laser light are used to stimulate your natural growth of collagen—the protein that gives the skin youthful firmness and elasticity. The increased collagen can minimize fine lines and wrinkles throughout the treatment area. When acne scars or other facial scarring is treated with Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing, the laser breaks up the scar tissue and allows the refreshed collagen to give the scar a smoother, less noticeable appearance. As an added bonus, the laser treatment can break up the pigments in age spots, resulting in a more even, younger complexion.
Band Aid Skin Tightening
For patients who prefer to focus on lax or wrinkled facial skin, rather than on age spots and acne scars, Band Aid Skin Tightening is a non-surgical way to make the skin firmer. Like laser treatments, this procedure causes the skin to develop more collagen, but it uses a different method. Band Aid Skin Tightening uses the Protégé system to send targeted warmth into the deeper layers of the skin. Because the collagen continues to develop long after the treatment has ended, results progressively improve for as long as three to six months after the treatment plan is complete.
While many patients find success with these and other non-surgical procedures (like microdermabrasion, cosmetic facial injectables, and chemical peels), those who are looking for a more significant change in their appearance are often a better fit for a minimally-invasive cosmetic surgery, like the Band Aid Facelift, or for a more comprehensive procedure like the traditional facelift. At the office of double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy, we feel privileged to be able to spend every day working with our wonderful patients and helping them to be their most beautiful and confident selves. The support of the metro Atlanta community has been valuable to us, and to further our efforts to give back, every year we hold several social media charity contests and ask our patients and supporters to choose a local charity to receive our $1,000 donation. Our most recent charity contest has now come to a close, and we are excited to announce the winner: Atlanta Humane Society!
Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) has been serving the Atlanta area since 1873 as the city’s oldest private charity. They were originally created to serve animals as well as women and children, but throughout the years, they have specialized their efforts to focus on animals and on the mission of ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in our community.
Today, AHS strives toward creating a better world for our residents of all species with a number of different approaches. Perhaps their most well-known program is pet adoption. AHS takes in animals who need a home and, without euthanizing any animals who don’t have serious health or behavioral problems, adopts out around 8,000 animals to loving homes every year. However, the organization also offers support to the community in several other ways. For instance, their veterinary clinic gives animals the care they need, and their wide variety of obedience classes and other training helps pet owners create a happy and healthy environment. AHS is also continuing to develop the educational sector of their mission. Their website and donation centers offer a wealth of information for both new and veteran pet owners, and they are currently developing new outreach programs to bring pet education into the classroom.
All of us at the office of John L. LeRoy, M.D., are honored to lend a helping hand to an organization that serves both the citizens of our community and their furry friends, and we thank everyone who voted and helped us choose a deserving local charity to receive our donation. The field of plastic surgery is constantly changing, not only because new technology continues to arise, but also because surgeons and researchers are always looking for ways to better meet patients’ needs. As part of this effort, Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. John L. LeRoy developed his exclusive line of Band Aid plastic surgery procedures. But, many patients ask, what makes Band Aid procedures different from typical plastic surgery?
A Different Approach
Many cosmetic surgeries (like the facelift, eyelid surgery, and brow lift) focus primarily on helping patients look younger. In this case, procedures like the Band Aid Facelift are based on a different philosophy than the traditional facelift. Many facelift patients have observed their appearance aging as the years have gone by, and have eventually reached a point when they feel that surgery is “worth it” to minimize their wrinkles and skin laxity. The ideal Band Aid Facelift patient, on the other hand, is typically seeing the earlier signs of aging and is seeking a strategy of addressing facial aging as it arises. Rather than feeling unhappy with their appearance until they’re ready for a more comprehensive procedure, these patients often pair incremental Band Aid Facelifts with non-surgical procedures (like Band Aid Skin Tightening) every few years to address aging as it occurs, so they look more youthful and natural for years to come.
Balancing the Results with the Means
Facial rejuvenation procedures are not the only plastic surgeries that can be performed with minimally invasive techniques. With these surgeries, the goal is to improve the balance between the results that will be achieved and the commitment from the patient required to achieve the results. For example, we’ll compare the tummy tuck and the Band Aid Tummy Tuck. Both procedures are designed to improve the appearance of lax skin and, in some cases, excess fat or stretched muscles in the abdomen. For a patient who only has a smaller amount of excess skin to be removed, the general anesthesia and comprehensive procedure required with a traditional tummy tuck aren’t necessary. By focusing only on the areas that need improvement, Dr. LeRoy can use gentle numbing and limited incisions to give a Band Aid Tummy Tuck patient the slimmer, more youthful midsection they’re looking for, all with minimal downtime and cost.
Choosing the right plastic surgery to fit your needs is an important part of getting the results you want. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy has performed over 5000 Band Aid procedures over the course of nearly twenty years and can guide you toward determining which procedure is best for you and your individual needs. To start discussing your cosmetic options and which choice may be the best fit for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. John LeRoy. Who are the finalists?
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospice – For terminal cancer patients, every day is precious. But in order to meet their medical needs and to make their days as comfortable as possible, they require consistent nursing care, which is an expense that many cannot afford. For these patients, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospice serves as a facility that can give terminal cancer patients the care they could not afford elsewhere. The organization does not accept any payment from patients or their families, relieving the financial burden during their time of hardship.
TJ and Friends Foundation – In 2008, TJ Johnson was facing a cancer diagnosis. To ease the financial strain of medical costs, his friends organized an escorted motorcycle ride to raise money for TJ’s cause. In TJ’s memory, his friends have continued their quest to provide financial relief to cancer patients in northeast Georgia. While researchers fight to find better treatment and a cure for the disease, the TJ and Friends Foundation helps local cancer patients with their day-to-day financial struggles through fundraising events like softball tournaments, horse shows, bass tournaments, auctions, and more.
Atlanta Humane Society – As the oldest charitable organization in Atlanta, the Atlanta Humane Society has become a leader in ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in our community. The organization takes a multi-faceted approach, combining educational programs with veterinary care and adoption centers that never place “time limits” on the amount of time animals can remain in their care.
We truly value being a part of and giving back to our community, and we would be honored to have your help in choosing which local charity will receive $1,000 to continue their important work.
