And the Charity Contest Nominees Are…
For the past several weeks, all of us at the office of John L. LeRoy, MD, asked our valued patients and Facebook fans to help us give back to our community, and thanks to you, we’re one step closer to donating $1,000 to a deserving charity. After carefully considering all of your wonderful nominations, we’ve narrowed down the list to four finalists and opened our poll so all of our Facebook fans can vote for a deserving charity.
The four finalists, each nominated by a member of the community who has been deeply affected by their cause and mission, include:
The Cookie Mom’sters –This small yet powerful organization is made up of a group of moms who want an end to childhood cancer. By coordinating bake sales in order to raise money for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, this charity contributes toward researching therapies for the disease that kills more children than any other illness—pediatric cancer.
Atlanta S.E.E.D.s (Self-Esteem Empowerment and Education through Dance)—The local branch of this nationwide organization is dedicated to guiding young girls to become stronger young women. By using a combination of dance instruction, mentorship, and guest speakers, S.E.E.D.s provides a positive environment for girls to grow into socially and fiscally responsible young women.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society—This charity provides vital support to the many people affected by blood cancers by using a multi-faceted approach. Through research funding, information dispersal, and support programming, LLS strives to eradicate blood cancers while improving the quality of life for patients and their loved ones until the cure is found.
The American Cancer Society—Headquartered here in Atlanta, The American Cancer Society is one of the most influential forces in the fight against cancer. This organization understands the need to incorporate many strategies and involve as many people as possible to improve prognoses and eradicate cancer, so they use a combination of preventative education, research funding, legislative action, and supportive programs to serve cancer patients and their families.
